山椒(さんしょう)は堅く摩耗に強いため、古くからすりこぎとして使用されてきました。高野山を源流とする有田川が流れる清水は、豊かな自然に恵まれた日本有数の山椒の産地。このすりこぎは実をつけなくなった清水の山椒の木を使って作られているそうです。良質な材料を活かし、すり鉢との当たりがよく手になじむように仕立てられています

Sanshō wood is exceptionally hard and highly resistant to wear, which is why it has been traditionally used for pestles for centuries. Shimizu, where the Arita River flows from its source at Mount Kōya, is one of Japan’s foremost sanshō-producing regions, blessed with abundant natural surroundings. This pestle is crafted from sanshō trees from Shimizu that no longer bear fruit. Making full use of this fine material, it is carefully shaped to fit comfortably in the hand and to work smoothly with a mortar.

【お手入れについて (取扱説明書より抜粋)】
◎ご使用に際して
・ご使用後はよく水洗いした後、水分をしっかり拭き取り、風通しの良い日陰で十分に乾かしてください。落れや水分を残したままにしておくと、カビが生える原因になります。
・長時間水に浸けたままにすることや、直射日光、食器洗浄機、電子レンジなどによる過度な加湿、加熱や乾燥は、カビや腐敗または反りや割れの原因となりますので避けてください。ひび割れの原因となります。

◎ひび割れについて
山椒の播粉木は、技や幹をそのまま用いるため木の志を含みます。越を含んだ木材は温度と湿度の変化により膨張・収縮を繰り返しひび割れます。尚、製品には万全を期しておりますが、万一不具合などお気づきの点がございましたら、お手数ですが東屋までご連絡ください。

【Care Instructions (Excerpt from the Instruction Manual)】

◎ Before and after use
• After use, rinse thoroughly with water, wipe off all moisture carefully, and allow to dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Leaving dirt or moisture on the surface may cause mold to develop.
• Avoid leaving the product submerged in water for long periods. Also avoid direct sunlight, dishwashers, microwave ovens, and excessive humidity, heat, or drying, as these may cause mold, decay, warping, or cracking.

◎ About cracking
Sanshō pestles are made using branches or trunks in their natural form and therefore contain the natural character of the wood. Wood with natural grain expands and contracts repeatedly with changes in temperature and humidity, which may result in cracking.
